PhD Paper Award from INTEDU & AISSEC to Elisa Sbalchiero

 28/07/2025

202409271102th sbalchiero

We are pleased to announce that Elisa Sbalchiero, PhD fellow from the 40th cohort of SOMET, has received the Ph.D. Paper Award for the best paper presented at the Annual Conference on Inequality and Education: Measurement, Evidence, and Policy. The conference was jointly organized by the INTEDU project (PRIN PNRR 2022 on Inequality in Tertiary Education) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and AISSEC (Italian Association for the Study of Comparative Economic Systems).

Her winning paper, co-authored with Emanuele Fedeli and Moris Triventi (University of Milan), is titled

Bridging or Widening the Gap?
The Role of School-Level Resources for Migrant and Native Student Achievement in Italy

The study examines how the school context, specifically the availability of school resources, impacts educational achievement gaps in Italian and mathematics between students with and without a migrant background, with a focus on the second year of upper secondary school in Italy (Grade 10).

The Ph.D. Paper Award recognized the most relevant study by Ph.D. students or early-career researchers, valuing originality, methodological innovation, and especially the relevance of results for future policy implications.

Congratulations Elisa!
