NASP invites applications by doctoral candidates and post-doctoral students from other institutions to conduct research at NASP.

Visiting scholars should be working on a research project which falls into one of the NASP main thematic fields: Political Studies, Sociology and Labour Studies.

NASP may not provide funding for the stay. However office space, computer facilities and access to University Libraries are available to all visiting scholars.

There are no fixed application deadlines, and the duration of the stay may vary. Most of our visiting scholars spend between 2 and 6 months at NASP.

Applications are accepted in accordance with the capacity of the NASP GS to host visiting scholars. The School can host up to six scholars at the same time.

Visiting scholars are invited to fully participate in the research activities of NASP, including classes, seminars and workshops.

What NASP offers

• Office space (shared with other visiting scholars) from Monday through Friday, h. 8.30 - 19.30
• An e-mail account allowing visiting scholars full access to the electronic resources of the University of Milan
• Wireless internet connection
• Printing and photocopy facilities
• Full use of the Department of Social and Political Sciences (UNIMI) library and computer facilities
• Opportunities to discuss research with NASP staff
• Invitations to attend at all seminars and workshop in the NASP and in the Departments of the Network.

What we expect from visiting scholars

Visiting scholars are encouraged to attend and participate in the academic activities of NASP. Seminars and workshops are usually conducted in English and prospective visiting scholars should therefore have at least a fair command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of basic Italian is also welcome.

Visiting scholars are often asked to give a seminar in English about their research during their time in Milan.

Visiting scholars are expected to be self-funding.

Residential accommodation in the University campus is extremely limited and applicants for the status of visiting scholars should not rely on its availability. Visiting scholars are expected to make their own arrangements regarding accommodation, travel, visas/work permit, health assistance and insurance.

Procedure for application

The prospective visiting scholars should contact NASP, asking for admission at least three months before the date planned to come to NASP.

Applicants will have to specify in the Visiting scholar's application form:

• the period of stay and the estimated date of arrival and departure
• a summary of research plans
• teaching activities, if any, they wish to attend
• possible particular needs (i.e. disable person)

Applicants will have to send:

• a letter of reference by a Professor of his/her University
• a full CV
• the visiting scholar application form (word format).

The application will be taken into consideration and a reply will be given within a month.

Applicants are encouraged to contact members of the staff in NASP to seek their support before making an application.
This will help to ensure that the proposed research project concurs with current research interests and expertise of the School.

Completed applications should be sent to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
