Topic of the thesis: Gay dads and family life: how Italian and Norwegian gay dads negotiate their everyday life in two different social contexts.
Abstract:Unpaid work has still today a gendered division: even though women had started since the last century to enter labour market, on the other hand men have not increased their commitment to unpaid work, which is, in some countries more than others, a women's burden. The differences between countries on this aspect is not only due to different cultural backgrounds in society or individual wishes but are largely dependent on how policies for families are shaped. Fathers living in countries that offer the possibility to a reserved quota for paternity leave are more involved in unpaid work. In regards to homoparental families an important role is played by laws recognizing same sex partnership and families. Therefore, aims of the research would be understanding what chances or constraints have gay dads in regard to this two dimensions in very different countries concerning social and family policies such as Italy and Norway.
