Topic of the thesis: IR in Eastern Europe: a case for a neglected region.
Abstract:This project aims at examining the state of IR in Eastern Europe (EE) through a comparative case study of Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic States. This departure from the commonly accepted notion of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) within the literature on issues of the national contexts for the discipline's development, is based on the assumption that EE is a specific European sub-region, which is unified by the shared socio-historical and geocultural narratives, though divided politically and institutionally along existing geopolitical lines. The project uses a multi-method design, integrating data from the TRIP survey, journal content and author personal profile analysis as well as interviews with key stakeholders in the process of knowledge production and dispersion. It is also aimed at generating bibliometric data, with regard towards several national cases, in order to measure both the structuration of IR communities and the patterns of knowledge diffusion.
