Topic of thesis: Neo-liberalism, Microcredit and Women in Bangladesh: Who Benefits and How?
Abstract: The proposed study will endeavor to focus on microcredit policies and practices of two widely recognized NGOs- Grameen Bank and the BRAC- and their effects on the lives of poor women in rural Bangladesh. More specifically, the study will try to find out whether microcredit programs yield any remarkable outcomes for the poor women’s family, trying at the same time to understand which categories of women in the villages on which the field work will be focused benefit from participating in microcredit programs and how they benefit. Moreover, the study will also look at whether any particular kinds of norms and values are nurtured at local level through the operation and management of microcredit programs. My research approach will be interpretive ethnography following the data collection methods
