Topic of the thesis:
understanding urban population change in his causes and asses the effects of neighbourhood upgrade and downgrade on Paris metropolitan area, with a focus on suburbanisation of low and middle-income households.

Abstract: my research aims to investigate urban upgrade and downgrade changes in the Paris region. The topic has been studied by many scientific works over the last 20 years, but these have left some research avenues unexplored. In particular, it has only recently been possible to use individual georeferenced longitudinal data to study the dynamics of change of neighbourhoods in terms of upgrades and downgrades. To measure these changes, we will investigate four mechanisms: residential mobility, social mobility, income distribution and demographic changes. This study will be carried out on working-age individuals residing in the Paris region and neighbouring municipalities between 2015 and 2020. After studying the impact of these four mechanisms, I will focus on the particular case of the suburbanisation of low and middle-income households in order to understand the extent of the phenomenon and to measure its effects in terms of inequalities.
