Topic of the thesis: Cutting food waste at the source. An investigation on the role of policies mixes in the adoption of technologies for food loss prevention.
Abstract: Food loss and waste (FLW) have a dramatic impact on the sustainability of food systems. Food waste hierarchies (FWH) identify surplus food prevention as the most effective strategy to tackle the FLW problem. Technologies play an essential role in preventing FLW at higher levels of the FWH. Hence, it is essential to understand the most effective policy instruments and policy tools in supporting the application of these technologies and tackle FLW at its roots. This study adopts a cross-regional comparative analysis that uses in-depth interviews to conduct an ex-post evaluation of agricultural innovation policies. Insights from the study will contribute to the current discourse on policy instruments and policy mixes, as well as to the understanding of the role that technologies play in preventing FLW.
