
Topic of thesis: Essay on the Political Economy of Institutions and Innovation: Evidence from Eastern African Economies
Abstract: My thesis aims at empirically scaffolding the linkages among institutions, innovation capacity and economic performance using panel data set from Eastern African Economies’ so as to find answers to questions which remain unanswered with respect to Eastern African Economies’ experience. Thus, the research questions are: • How is it that the strategies of institutional reforms that eastern African economies have adopted has been able to achieve substantial progress towards financial sector development and there by economic development? • What role has state capacity and institutional factors played in shaping the reform for innovation capacity development in the countries? • What factors have been instrumental in the success or failure of various reforms that have been undertaken in the countries? • What is the relevance of institutional development for innovation capacity development and thereby economic growth and development?
