Topic of thesis: The performative power of economic imaginaries on Startup Economy
Abstract: «Startup» constitutes nowadays a specific enterprise model, one of the most representative features of knowledge economy, and a buzzword at the core of a powerful economic imaginary. International and Italian literature on it has mainly focused on management and business issues, while macro socio-economical researches have been less developed. This PhD project is aimed to partly fill this gap inquiring the performative power exerted by the existing economic imaginary of startup economy through two specific research questions: which role is played by this imaginary in the ecology of the Start-up economy, particularly in its value production and market configuration, and how this imaginary exerts performative power on the agency and identity of «startuppers» and the other main actors. The main hypothesis to be explored will be if the economic imaginary of startup economy is a relevant intangible asset of the economy itself. For such a purpose, I will use a mixed-methods approach with component design, making theoretically use of the cultural political economy approach.
