Topic of the thesis: The impact of monetary and non-monetary rewards on employee attraction and retention: A dual study on organizational policies and worker perceptions

Abstract: Understanding the effects of reward systems on employee attraction and retention is critical across various sectors, as employee turnover and the challenge of attracting new talent have become pressing issues for companies that compete in advanced economies. Though the literature on the impact of reward policies on employee outcomes has proliferated in recent years, existing findings are mixed and fragmented. This research project aims to offer a comprehensive framework for understanding how monetary and non-monetary reward policies may affect the attraction and retention of employees. The research is divided into two broad areas of investigation: the first part relates to the organizational strategies and practices and their effects on employee attraction and retention; the second part explores the perceptions of workers and job seekers regarding different types of rewards. We employ a mixed-method approach to data collation and analysis, combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Data come from both existing sources (such as, for example, the European Company Survey and the European Working Condition Survey), and original surveys and interviews collected from employees and job seekers. Overall, this project offers an important contribution to the compensation literature, as well as relevant practical recommendations for developing comprehensive compensation strategies that align with organizational goals and employee expectations.

Research interests: Reward Systems and Compensation; Employee Perceptions of Organizational Policies; Organizational Strategies for Talent Management; Employee Attraction and Retention; Impact of HR Policies on Organizational Outcomes
