Topic of thesis: How does family care impact on life satisfaction of care receivers and care givers? A longitudinal study on fifteen European countries and Israel.
Abstract: In my dissertation, I shall address the individual implication of family care, that is, the life satisfaction on both those who take care of and those who are cared for. My research question addresses gaps in the literature on this topic by asking: how does family care impact on life satisfaction of care providers and care receivers? For this purpose, I will adopt a longitudinal approach to test whether, and to what degree, this effect (either positive or negative) changes over time, besides across space. In particular, I will use a multivariate model on the Survey of Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) Database, one for the care givers (i.e. family carers), the other one for the care receivers (i.e. elderly dependent people). This research focusing on the “demand side” will be of use for both scientific researchers and policy makers designing and implementing the best Long-Term Care (LTC) policy’s priorities.
