Topic of the thesis:  More-Than-Human Feelings: Algorithmic Intimacy and Emotional Structures of Human-AI Relationships

Abstract: As AI companions become perceived as sources of support and solace (Frenkenberg & Hochman, 2025), users increasingly treat them as significant others — raising urgent sociological and ethical questions about trust and emotional labour in digital spaces. This project explores how emotional connections between humans and AI are transforming contemporary understandings of intimacy, vulnerability, and emotional expression. Drawing from the sociology of emotions, it investigates how algorithmic systems not only simulate human affect but also co-create emotional experiences that blur the boundaries between artificial and human.
