ReSPoS Summer School 2021 - Online edition

Research Strategies in Policy Studies (ReSPoS) Summer School 2021 - 8th edition

Comparing and Miscomparing

June 28 – July 1

In accordance with the pandemic situation, the school will be held virtually

 What is ReSPoS?

ReSPoS is a Summer School deeply focused on research methods in policy studies. With special attention devoted to methodological pluralism, ReSPoS's main task is to grant participants the opportunity to be presented with - and possibly to challenge - different research traditions, by discussing the assumptions, the advantages and the limitations underlying each method. Accordingly, ReSPoS Summer School will help participants to critically evaluate their research projects and to choose the empirical strategy that better suits their research questions.

What will this edition be about?
The 8th edition of the ReSPoS Summer School focuses on comparing and miscomparing in policy and political studies. Indeed, participants will be offered expert insights on how comparison can support understanding, assessing, and explaining - and how it can wreak havoc on their research when done badly.

ReSPoS 2021 will take place as a virtual training program with a twofold track:

» Four Open Webinars with Q&A sessions.
To join these webinars, simply click on the links provided on the ReSpoS website.

» Four Closed Project Colloquia
Project Colloquia will be restricted to a selected audience of ten enrolled Ph.D. students and MA students willing to apply for a Ph.D. program. These Project Colloquia will allow attendees to get feedback on their research projects from the speakers. To access such sessions, please apply via the form provided in the link below (see Applications).

Thus, the ReSPoS 2021 Virtual Edition will include:

  • the presentation and critical discussion of a mix of comparative strategies for policy and political studies;
  • the opportunity to discuss your research project with well-established scholars.

Programme

» Comparing: Why and How
Dirk Berg-Schlosser, University of Marburg

» Comparing to Classify: the Set Theoretical Approach

» Comparing to Assess, Evaluate and Learn: Regression Discontinuity Design
