Topic of thesis: Gender in Medical Careers
I examine the intersection of gender and medical careers under the supervision of Prof. Antonio Chiesi as part of the project STAGES (Structural Transformation to Achieve Gender Equality in Science) funded by the European Commission at the University of Milan.
I investigate the career situations and advancement of women medical doctors in terms of scientific productivity and the role of gender stereotypes in their careers. The idea of glass ceiling and its relevance in women’s medical careers has been explored and scrutinized in the context of hospitals and university medical departments in Milan, Italy.
I use both quantitative and qualitative methods of investigation. The quantitative methods employed include both primary and secondary data by using a questionnaire survey and archival records. The qualitative part includes interviews with doctors.
Research Interests: My research interests focus particularly on gender inequalities in areas of gender and science, gender in medicine and engineering and STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) in women’s work/careers.
